WHAT DOES AI IMAGINE?

ABOUT

What Does AI Imagine? explores how artificial intelligence constructs human identity. Visitors enter a human category—such as artist, neighbour, scientist or criminal—and the work generates a portrait based on statistical associations learned from vast collections of human-made images.

The resulting portraits do not depict real individuals or objective truths. Instead, they reveal the visual archetypes, assumptions and cultural biases embedded within the artificial intelligence itself. The work asks us to consider how machines imagine humanity, while reminding us that no portrait can serve as evidence of character, morality, intelligence or worth.

By turning the AI's gaze back upon itself, What Does AI Imagine? becomes less a portrait generator than an examination of machine perception and the human cultures from which it learns.
